We watched an episode yesterday of 爸爸去哪儿 (Ba Ba Qu Na Er). The show already concluded and probably they would air season 2 by June. For this episode, they brought the fathers with their children to a village where they visited old people whose kids are working in the city. It was a rare chance that they get to see their children. It was heart-warming how these young kids about 3-6 years of age know how to respond to the needs of the elderly even when they were not told to do so. I was touched upon seeing the smiles painted on the faces of the grandfathers and grandmothers enjoying the moment as they watched the kids play and later on letting them join too. I remember how my Ama used to smile or laugh by just watching us all play. Every weekend, we would hang out in her room and play whatever we thought about playing. She would laugh at our laughter. I think it’s the same sentiment for these grandparents who were left all alone there, and a visit such as this could definitely brighten up their day.
Towards the end of the episode, the producers featured a one-on-one interview by the 村长 (chief) with the kids. The fathers will be in another room watching their kids respond. They looked quite nervous and at the same time anticipating what their children would say. One of the fathers, Jimmy Lin, was surprised at the answer of his son when asked what he wished his dad to do for him, he wished that his dad could spend more time with his mom. It was really heartwarming how a 4-year old boy would think of his mother before himself. Jimmy Lin had busy schedules because of his work and had to leave Taipei very often. It was also nice to see how the kids answered when asked whom they liked best, their dad or their mom. They replied that they liked both their parents.
This is a great show that focuses on the father-daughter or father-son relationship featuring Jimmy Lin [林志颖] and Kimi, Tian Liang 田亮 and Cindy, [Wang Yue Lun] 王岳伦 and Angela, Zhang Liang [张亮] and Tian Tian [天天], 郭涛 and 石头。They would be very happy to look back on this part of their lives and be thankful for what they have experienced. Because of their busy lives as director, actor, model, or athlete, they had to rely the task of taking care of their kids to their wives. In some episodes, one could see how meticulous the mothers are in taking care of their kids as well as preparing the things that their husband and children need for this trip. The fathers admittedly said that most of the things back home are done by their wives. They know now how hard it is to raise a kid, and to do all the household chores. Through this show, their relationship with their child deepened, and opened up new avenues to get to know how kids think. I commend the production team for setting up the places and situations for the show. I think it is good to let the kids go to places, experience new things and know how to respond to whatever comes up. I commend the dads for letting their children experience how to be independent or simply trying out new things and staying right behind them, to be someone they can fall back on when they needed a hand. I recommend this show for everyone to watch.
