In the ending of 怪侠一支梅 (The Vigilantes in Masks/Strange Hero Yi Zhi Mei) , Li Ge Xiao told San Niang about the origin of his name, why his parents gave him that name. The death of his Shirfu is really sad but he remembered what his mother told him and understood that now. He was named Li Ge Xiao, Li which means departing or leaving, Ge which means song, Xiao means smile. It is that when people leave this earth, we could be happy for the time spent with them. Crying is for those regrets or things you weren’t able to do for that person. The important thing is to relinquish the time you shared with each other. Parting ways signifies a new beginning.
为离别而哭 内疚 痛心
(rough translation of what is stated above)
They want me to remember that as a person he should face parting with song and joy. That time, I didn’t understand, but later I realized that if we cry, feel bad, experience hurt during times of separation, that is because we didn’t do enough when we were together. But the truth is we feel the pain because we didn’t treasure what we had. When we learn to cherish what we have when we still have them, we won’t have any regrets when parting. After all, isn’t parting is to welcome another new beginning? Isn’t it worth it to be greeted with song and joy? Just like how this life has given us a lot of frailties and trials; the one thing we couldn’t pass isn’t the monstrous challenges, but ourselves. My friends, remember to continue to hold on for our loved ones, for our dreams, for this fate. If we didn’t go through the hardships in life or gave our best in those tests, how can we succeed or find happiness?
I don’t like the topic about deaths, but most of the time news comes in that involves deaths of someone we know. No one could prevent it from happening; it’s a course that nature has to take. Watching The Vigilantes in Masks taught me a different perspective, though it’s easier said than done, we can be encouraged to live in the moment, to enjoy life with the people dear to us, and that parting may be painful but this is just our temporary home. We could choose to send them off with a song and a smile on our face. When grandmother passed away, I felt really sad, but then in a dream I was reminded that she was in a better place. I felt the rain on my skin and then the sun’s rays, I can’t help but smile for the wonderful years we had spent together.
